CONTACT: Bob Niel (703) 243-6987, ext.103 BUZZ ALDRIN TO BE INTERVIEWED FOR LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER Aldrin, who along with Neil Armstrong was part of the history-making Apollo XI mission, is one of a handful of people to have ever walked on the moon. A graduate of West Point, Aldrin also flew 66 combat missions in Sabre jets during the Korean Conflict, shooting down two MIG-15's. Aldrin's father, Edwin Aldrin Sr., was an aviation pioneer who was a student of rocket developer Robert Goddard and military aviation pioneer Billy Mitchell. "If anyone fits the bill of Legend of Airpower, it's certainly Buzz Aldrin," said Russ Hodge, Executive Producer of the series. "We are thrilled to be able to bring such a colorful and historic figure to our millions of viewers." Legends of Airpower is a biographical series focusing on the greats of military aviation. Thirteen episodes are now airing on public television stations throughout the United States. Since launching on public television on September 17, 2000, Legends of Airpower has already been seen more than seventeen hundred times on 150 public TV stations throughout the U.S., including at least one station in seven of the top ten markets. The Aldrin episode is part of twenty-six new episodes currently in production. Legends of Airpower is produced by Three Roads Communications, Inc., of Arlington, Virginia and Frederick, Maryland. The series is partially underwritten by a grant from the Aerospace Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes science and math education and awareness of national defense issues.
