LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER TO AIR ON DISCOVERY WINGS CHANNEL

-- Aviation Biography Series To Begin Distribution In Centennial of Flight Year --

Frederick, Md. -- Discovery Wings Channel has purchased 26 episodes of the series LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER by 3 Roads Communications, and has commissioned the production of an additional 26 new episodes.  The series will debut on Discovery Wings Channel during the network’s year-long celebration of the Centennial of Flight in 2003.  The original 26 episodes of Legends of Airpower debuted on public television in 2000.

“ We are thrilled that Discovery Wings Channel is showcasing LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER,” said Russ Hodge, president of 3 Roads Communications and creator and executive producer of the series.  “It is a tremendous acknowledgement of the quality and popularity of the series for a network the caliber of Discovery Wings Channel to put us on their schedule.”

Among the legends profiled in the series’ original 26 episodes are Chuck Yeager, Buzz Aldrin, Charles Lindbergh, John Glenn, Benjamin Davis, Jimmy Stewart, Jacqueline Cochran, the Wright Brothers and John McCain. The series has won a number of awards, including the Telly, Communicator and Aurora Awards. 

The additional 26 episodes of LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER now in production for Discovery Wings Channel include profiles of Jim Lovell, Joe Foss, Robin Olds, Tex Hill, Amelia Earhart, Chappie James, Scott Crossfield, Butch O’Hare and Deke Slayton.

LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER is produced by 3 Roads Communications of Frederick, Md.  3 Roads Communications is a partner with the Centennial of Flight Commission, the organization chartered by Congress to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Flight this year. 3 Roads Communications also produced the award-winning public television series Frontiers of Medicine.

Underwriting for the public television production of LEGENDS OF AIRPOWER was provided by the Aerospace Education Foundation (AEF) for the first 13 episodes, and by AEF and the National Aviation Hall of Fame for the remaining 13 episodes.  The series is presented to public television by South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV) and distributed by American Public Television (APT).
