Legends of Airpower is partially underwritten by a grant from the National Aviation Hall of Fame.

America's air and space pioneers are alive and flying high at the National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF). Founded in 1962 and chartered by the United States Congress in 1964, the National Aviation Hall of Fame is dedicated to promoting and preserving the legacies of the men and women who tested the limits of aerospace technology and the human spirit.

The NAHF's Learning and Research Center is located in Dayton, OH, just a scant few miles from Huffman Prairie, where the Wright Brothers perfected their miraculous flying machines. The center was opened in late 1998 and is currently preparing for the installation of permanent exhibits and interactive displays. The completed facility will focus on a three-pronged commitment to education, inspiration and motivation.

The NAHFs mission will be carried out through:

  • Educational programs that offer aviation pioneers and achievements as a springboard to energizing traditional classroom curriculum;
  • Comprehensive archives and digital data through the facilitys Harry B. Combs Research Center;
  • A detailed and compelling website, offering age appropriate activities and information;
  • Exhibit images and narrative designed to inspire and motivate visitors of all ages;
  • Interactive displays designed to give visitors a seat of the pants taste of air and space reality;
  • Exciting, humorous or gripping anecdotes about the personal struggles and philosophies of the NAHF enshrines;
  • and, A tiered system of research capabilities at the NAHF's Harry B. Combs Research Center, allowing enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to connect with inspirational and motivational stories and individuals.

Each year in July the NAHF holds its glittering Enshrinement Banquet, often referred to as the Oscar Night of Aviation. There, a freshman crop of aerospace heroes are welcomed into the fold and celebrated for their contributions to science, technology, discovery and the unquenchable human thirst for adventure and exploration.
